Quintessence - Jams (1969-1971)

Quintessence were a UK psychedelic rock band of the 60’s-70’s, not only influenced like most bands of the time by entheogens/altered states of consciousness, Quintessence also took another direction, uniting rock music with hindu mysticism, the band even had it’s own personal guru! Dont let that fool you though, this music goes from eerie ethereal mantras to wild psych freakouts. After some bad business decisions, the band didn’t break out internationally and after money problems some members were kicked out and the band finally disolved in 1980. Various (ex) members have tried reviving the Quintessence name through other bands ( like Shiva’s Quintessence). Perhaps the most recognized of it’s members though is Raja Ram, who dropped psych rock for electronica and is now recognized as one of the founders of psytrance and psybient music.
