The Fifth Element (1997) - ’The Diva Dance’ scene [1080]

Luc Besson’s colourful sci-fi is loud and outrageous, but amidst the craziness there are a few moments of beauty. This is the most memorable one - an opera performance by a weird blue alien, which then segues into an action piece. The film makes full use of composer Eric Serra’s standout piece ’The Diva Dance’, by interspersing the opera scenes with the action happening elsewhere. It’s one of a couple of highlights on an otherwise messy and grating soundtrack, but it’s quite stunning. Starring Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Milla Jovovich, Chris Tucker, Ian Holm and Lee Evans. Directed by Luc Besson, with original music by Eric Serra. This scene starts off with a piece from ’Lucia di Lammermoor’, an opera by Gaetano Donizetti, and then continues with ’The Diva Dance’. Both are performed by Inva Mulla Tchako.
