Media scrum LAGERFELD WHIPS UP A MEDIA FRENZY WITH NICOLE KIDMAN Paris Fashion Week reached it’s highpoint on Friday with Karl Lagerfeld’s latest line for Chanel. All the glamour and glitz usually associated with the luxury fashion label was there in abundance as supermodels past and present descended on Lagerfeld’s stage. But first to arrive was Nicole Kidman. The oscar-winning star is set to star in a new advertising campaign for Chanel No. 5 perfume, which sees her reuniting with ’Moulin Rouge’ director Baz Luhrmann. It was business as usual for 37-year-old Kidman, radiant in a black suit with a white scarf around her neck, Lagerfeld’s runway was set up as a red-carpet and the swarm of photographers had been enlisted to ham up the frenzy of a superstar arrival. Footage from today’s show is expected to appear in the forthcoming ad for the iconic perfume which Marilyn Monroe claimed was all she wore in bed. When the show kicked off there was no letup for the photographers as Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Nadja Auermann and Kristen McMenamy appeared in glamorous gowns fit for any red carpet occasion. In prim tweeds and satin and lace siren gowns, the bevy of beauties captured the essence of the pretty collection. Not one to let the momentum fade, Lagerfeld then sent out his models at a blistering pace - his creative pool clearly overflowing with ideas. “There is a big red carpet part and then of course Chanel for daily life. The new suits, the new proportions, the new blouses, the new evening dresses, new sportswear, the new shoes, and everything,“ he explained before the show. Sudanese model Alek Wek appeared in a tiny black swimsuit worn with the rows of pearls. It seems less is still more. The show ended with a backless black velvet column gown slit high in the front, the bare skin in the back covered with a glittering No. 5 pendant - a carbon copy of the final image of Kidman in the ad for the fragrance. The hysteria again spun out of control at the end of the show when Lagerfeld mounted the stage and took Kidman’s hand, bringing her onto the catwalk to set off a media mayhem.
