Fly Tying: Hot Spot Spider (soft hackle)

Featured in this fly tying tutorial is the Hot Spot Spider, a slight variation of the classic. Spiders, also commonly referred to as soft hackles, typically consist of thin silk thread bodies and sparse amounts of hackle from varying game birds. This pattern adds a modern material, Glo-Brite, for a hot spot by its head. In this tutorial, I also show how to properly prepare a hackle for spider and soft hackle patterns.
