The death toll in the Chechen conflict remains undocumented, but Russia’s Human Rights Commission recently revealed that approximately 24,000 civilians have been killed in Grozny alone. Russian officials have begun to excavate several mass graves in central Grozny, and friends and family members go to the area daily to try to identify their dead.
