Raya and the Last Dragon | Sisu Human Test Shot Progression | Kim Hazel | @3DAnimationInternships

This early performance test of Sisu Human was the first thing I did when I started on Raya in fall of 2019. I was SO excited to get to animate a “weird” female Asian character - from the moment I saw early designs from @shiyoon83 I knew I HAD to work on her! I can’t include the dialogue clip I animated to, so just pretend you can hear Awkwafina saying: “What?! NO! Hey! Leave me alone! Who’s this crazy person? Sh-she’s your friend?! I don’t know who that is!” At this point in production her personality was a bit different than who she ended up being in the final film, but this animation was used by the amazing tech anim team to test out her hair and clothes - I think this clip was done by @katekirbyoconnell! Lastly, I’ve included my reference for this test! It was important to me to capture the frenetic energy of Awkwafina’s voice acting, so inspired by the youths of TikTok making musical lip-syncs, I filmed my reference at half speed and then sped it up later! .
