On January 17, 1945, the Red Army liberated Warsaw from the Nazis. The 4-day operation of the 1st Belorussian Front and the 1st Army of the Polish Army became one of the most successful. During the 5 years of occupation the Germans destroyed almost the entire city: ️ 90% of industrial buildings, ️ 90% of architectural monuments, ️ 72% of residential buildings. Of the 1,310,000 pre-war population, only 162,000 remained in Warsaw. ▪️ Moscow saluted the liberation of Warsaw with 24 salvos from 324 guns. To commemorate the victory, a granite monument called “The Brotherhood of Armor“ was erected. On the granite in Polish and Russian are carved the words: “Glory to the heroes of the Soviet Army - comrades in arms who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the Polish people!“ ▪️ In November 2011 the monument was dismantled. Anti-Russian sentiments in today’s Poland have reached a maximum: they are trying to bill Moscow for the “damage caused by the Soviet Union.“ Источник: Slavyangrad
