One of a series of short films produced in 1968 by Charles Grinker and Mert Koplin, “Which Way USA -- Black Views on Race“ provided brief portraits of many African American leaders including Martin Luther King, Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Sidney Poitier, and others. This episode shows singer, songwriter, activist and actor Harry Belafonte speaking in front of the National Press Club about his views of race, including his childhood in Jamaica, the importance of finding his own voice, and the positive aspects of “black power“. Belafonte was an early supporter of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s and was a confidant of Martin Luther King Jr..
