It is a greatly obscured holiday in the United States. It was meant to be a joint holiday of the Allies celebrating the Unconditional Surrender of Germany. Little known fact, It is still technically on the books in the United States but its celebration date was May 8th. But only because it was noted the end of the war at 23:01, due to the time difference in Moscow from the rest of Europe, it was on May 9th for Russia.
