The arrival of heavy rains accompanied by hail on Saturday (July 29) wreaked havoc in Mexico City, resulting in damage to roads and infrastructure, while neighboring states also experienced the wrath of the storm, with torrential downpours, flooding, and hailstorms. Local media reports say northern part of Mexico City, bore the brunt of the relentless rains. Videos shared on social media showcased the Lindavista neighborhood submerged in torrents of rainwater, leaving roads impassable. The Vasco de Quiroga neighborhood experienced an extraordinary onslaught of hail, with streets and avenues blanketed in a layer of ice. Witnesses described hailstones as large as marbles. The impact of the storm extended beyond the city limits, as the State of Mexico, Puebla, and Hidalgo also grappled with its fury. In Puebla, a market structure succumbed to the heavy rains and collapsed, leaving traders counting their losses. Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage.
