President Macron Claims Without France Mali, Burkina Faso & Niger would Not Exist - In his annual address to French ambassadors on Monday, August 28th, 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron made some very bold claims, boasting that “ Without France’s military operations in the Sahel, “there would probably no longer be a Mali … Burkina Faso, and I’m not sure there would still be Niger.“ He made these comments in reference to the former colonial power’s interventions in the mid-2000s, as well as Operations Serval and Barkhane. Macron was adamant that these military operations were carried out in response to clear requests from African states, claiming their success in combating terrorism. However, despite his outlandish claims, France is now facing the threat of losing its sole remaining ally in the region, Niger, as well as increased hostility from African countries. The French President also went on to say that while these operations reflect France’s “honour“ and “responsibility,“ France could no longer be involved “when there is a coup d’état and the priority of the new regimes is not to fight terrorism,“ despite the fact that this is “tragic for the states concerned.“ He also defended his administration’s Sahel policy which has garnered immense criticism recently, emphasising that it is built on a partnership vision rather than a singular focus on security. Macron’s remarks highlight the complexities of France’s relationship with its former Sahel colonies, where ensuring security while respecting African states’ autonomy and aspirations remains a difficult issue. As hostilities remain, the future of France’s engagement in the region is in doubt, since France’s overall popularity in the region and Africa at large is at an all-time low and will probably get even worse. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅SUPPORT US /AFFILIATE LINKS Use this affiliate link for your purchases at #MIZIZI International - Support our channel - PayPal: newafricachannel(at) Follow us on Instagram - Follow us on Twitter - Join us on Facebook - ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✅COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER The New Africa Channel doesn’t fully own some of the materials compiled in its videos.
