I am fortunate to have had the privilege of playing with many of my musical heroes over the course of my career, many of whom are some of the biggest names in the business. It’s always somewhat surreal when performing with those icons who were once on posters on my wall as a child. A familiar yet unfamiliar “treat” to say the least.
There is an adage: “never meet your heroes.” For, some say, it is “unwise to seek personal acquaintance with people whom one has regarded with high esteem, as they often fail to fulfill one’s expectations, resulting in disappointment.”
In my personal experience, that is pure rubbish, and – in fact, quite the contrary. I have found that the bigger the “star” the nicer and more down to earth they are. Perhaps it is because they have nothing to prove. It is also quite possible that their friendly and courteous dispositions were partially responsible for their rise to fame. Good karma…
I can’t say for sure, but what I can say is, Robby Krieger was as cool and gracious as can be. Additionally, unlike the other “greats” I have had the pleasure of meeting and performing with, he is literally one of the pioneers of the rock genre. His tones, riffs, songs, and aesthetic set a precedent for generations to come. Robby helped create an everlasting influence across the globe.
I am very grateful for @chuckwright, @adamverses, @jessica and all the incredible people behind the @ultimate jam who allowed me this fortunate experience. I am also indebted to @dennisquaid for his flexibility that evening and allowing me to sing the two songs I was originally scheduled to sing.
Also, for me, this was yet another testament to Mikael and the Maglieri’s magical influence in the musical community, even after their passing.
Thank you to all who attended and were a part of this.
