Pussy Riot Leader Maria V Alyokhina Has Escaped Russia | Queer News Tonight

The Russian group Pussy Riot has been making headlines since they were founded. Band leader Maria V. Alyokhina was first arrested back in 2012 for “Hooliganism“ after staging a protest against Vladimir Putin. She has been arrested several times since, and was recently informed that with government crackdowns she would be transferred from house arrest to a prison. Her girlfriend had already escaped to Lithuania, and Alyokhina decided to make her move. She left her cell phone behind so she couldn’t be tracked, and escaped her friend’s apartment dressed as a food delivery worker to avoid police notice. It took her 3 different tries to get across the border into Belarus before she finally crossed and was able to continue on to Lithuania.
