How One Simple Mistake Caused a Nuclear Disaster

During the first of March 1954 a thermonuclear test was launched at Bikini Atoll. It was a part of a series of other tests codenamed “castle“, thus its name “Castle Bravo“. Today, it is well-known for its status as the single most powerful nuclear detonation that the US has ever launched. However, what is hidden behind the curtains is much darker. In reality, it was never supposed to be given that status. In fact, what caused it to be that way was a deadly miscalculation by the scientists who were involved in the detonation.
