Front Room Fantasy (1968)

Slough, Berkshire (was Buckinghamshire). Beryl Evans is seen pulling up outside her house in a suburban street; the car is a taxi. She goes into the house and enters the living room. Several shots show Beryl working her very detailed model train set, she puts on a train driver’s hat and watches one of her trains zip around the track. The layout covers most of the living room carpet. Commentator tells us Beryl calls the layout ’Evansville’. Some rather garish curtains and wallpaper are seen in the background. I am informed by Mark that most of the trains, buildings and scenery were made by Hornby; it is not particularly attractive so presumably the interest was more that here was a woman had a train set rather than someone building a model train set at home. Note: on file is a cutting from the Daily Sketch about Beryl, which says she spent five hours sticking apples onto fruit trees in Evansville. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
