TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT IN RUSSIA: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

A foreigner can get a Russian Temporary Residence Permit (known as РВП) for 3 years. It’s, as a rule, the first step in acquiring Russian citizenship. It can’t be extended - after the РВП is expired, the holder must either apply for a Permanent Residence Permit or leave the country. Or, if there are certain grounds, apply for citizenship. 💼 According to the standard procedure, you can apply for a Temporary Permit under the QUOTA approved by the Russian Government; it means that the Government establishes a certain annual amount of permits for each region, and the region can’t issue more permits than determined, even if there were more applicants. ❗ You should first apply for a quota, and then for a permit itself. 🧑⚖️ Whether to grant you a quota or not is decided by a special COMMISSION, so it’s best to present them, e. g., evidence you have education, income sources, work in Russia, maybe Russian relatives, etc., to convince the commission you’re a persona grata here. ✅ However, sometimes it’s possible to get a temporary permit WITHOUT a quota, i. e., guaranteed. For example, if you’re married to a Russian, or eligible for a Permanent Residence Permit even without getting a temporary one – we’ll make another video devoted to this. 📘 To apply for a permit itself, you need to get tested for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C and TB, as well as for drugs in the body. You should also provide a no criminal record certificate. If you have residence in some other country, present the residence permit.
