Hi Stranger! How Meeting Someone New Can Change You | Vicky Nguyen | TEDxClearBrookHighSchool

Throughout high school, Vicky Nguyen had the opportunity to engage in cancer immunotherapy research and completed a capstone project on the implicit bias the general public has towards cancer patients. After speaking to cancer patients and witnessing the negative effects of implicit bias, Vicky decided to challenge herself to meet a stranger every day. To her, this was an opportunity to meet strangers who lived different lives from her – an opportunity to immerse herself in diverse cultures and uncover the beauty of it all. On a daily, Vicky work towards promoting diversity and equality for all youth through local community and Global service projects. Through her selfless and compassionate nature, she hopes to inspire a community that welcomes and embraces everyone’s uniqueness. Vicky Nguyen mind endlessly spirals as she jumps from one passion project to another. Outside of the classroom, she conducted research at Houston Methodist, examining the effects on Potentiation of Adoptive NK Cell Therapy in Diffused Large B-Cell Lymphoma Treatment. She is now at Baylor College of Medicine exploring the effects of GLUT10KD on breast cancer metabolism. After she clocks out, Vicky works on her service projects in more than 35 undeveloped countries, serving more than 5000 students to bridge the health and educational gap. Her mind then settles on gazing outside of the bus window -- she admires the beauty of small things, the small details of glistening stars, the swaying trees, and the moving clouds. She ultimately strives to amplify the beauty of life that surrounds her: microscopic cells, selfless student, peaceful nature… and most importantly, those now part of her community, you. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
