Nancy Pelosi pays tribute to George H.W. Bush

Bush, who was born June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts, grew up wealthy, attending elite schools but putting off college so he could enlist in the Navy at age 18. He flew 58 missions off aircraft carriers in World War Two and survived being shot down over the Pacific. His aircraft was shot down near the island of Chichi Jima in the Pacific. An aviator with then-Lieutenant (junior grade) Bush was not recovered after that man’s parachute failed to deploy. After floating at sea for four hours in an inflatable raft, the future president was rescued by sailors aboard the USS Finback submarine. Former President George H.W. Bush died on Friday at the age of 94. The 41st president of the United States, who lived longer than any of his predecessors and possessed one of the most impressive resumes in American political history, died peacefully at his home in Houston, according to a source close to the family.
