Using capillary tubes to extract venom from a Tiger Rattlesnake (Crotalus tigris) while Dr. Stephen Mackessy at the University of Northern Colorado holds the snake on 8/14/09. Notice how the highly toxic venom (most toxic venom drop for drop than any other rattlesnake) is clear instead of yellow, like in most rattlesnakes. Also note how Dr. Mackessy is gently massaging the venom glands on the sides of the head to encourage venom flow. This video is used to accompany my web article comparing the envenomation systems present in front- and rear-fanged snakes: .
