Toxic fires engulf Gaza as massive piles of dumped garbage ignite

Gaza’s streets have a new problem to deal with – flaming piles of garbage. The ongoing war with Israel has left sanitation workers unable to collect trash from Gaza City and take it to landfill, and as a result, garbage is being piled up around the city. While this has brought the usual hazards – flies, bad smells and health hazards – the current situation presents unique challenges. Namely, bombardments have hit the garbage, and now it’s on fire in the street. Nearly 35,000 tons of waste have been left in random piles in the street, and said waste is now busily smoldering away, engulfing Gaza’s remaining residents in toxic fumes and smoke. You know, just in case they don’t have enough going on at the moment
