Eternal boy Denis Vashurin might be 33 according to his passport, but his appearance doesn’t match his age. Although he was relatively slight as a child, he stopped ageing altogether in his early teens. Never having grown taller than 149 cm, first, he was frustrated and felt trapped in the body that didn’t fit his personality, but soon realised his boyish looks don’t have to be an obstacle to a good life. Slavyanka village in Primorsky Krai, where Denis lives, is quite literally the land’s end: it’s the farthest realm of the Russian Far East, almost at the border with China and North Korea. Living on the shores of a cold sea surrounded by untouched wilderness roamed by tigers requires strength of character and a great deal of self-reliance.
