Born in Chicago, and playing piano from his earliest years, Zeitlin’s first years as a professional coincided with a unique and exciting ferment in the Chicago music scene, giving this talented teenager an invaluable informal apprenticeship sitting in with the likes of Joe Farrell, Wes Montgomery and Ira Sullivan. While still in medical school, Zeitlin was introduced by Paul Winter to John Hammond, the legendary producer and talent scout. Hammond signed Zeitlin to Columbia in 1963.
