Various of firefighters battling blaze STORYLINE: Several explosions culminating in one huge plume of smoke rising above residential flats in Nairobi early on Friday started as a company refilled its gas tanks, according to a Kenyan government official. The Kenya Red Cross said on its X account that it had taken 29 injured people to hospital. Kenyan government spokesman Isaac Mwaura said a company was refilling gas cylinders when the fire broke out. The proximity of the industrial plant to residential homes raised questions about enforcement of city plans after officials at the county government were accused of taking bribes to overlook building codes and regulations.
