Star Citizen Cinematic: City Flying in Area 18

With the latest alpha patch to Star Citizen, 3.5, we received a new planet, ArcCorp. ArcCorp is a single city planet, with industrial, commercial, and residential buildings covering the entire surface of the planet, many liken this to Coruscant, from the Star Wars series. With each new planet we have a pretty good chance of also receiving a new major landing zone. The new landing zone, Area 18, is very reminiscent of what many would call a “cyberpunk“ city (Blade Runner, Shadowrun, Deus Ex) in it’s styling. While that is debatable, it certainly gives off the vibe. There’s plenty of verticality, giant neon ads, a combination of dirty-yet-clean feeling, and of course, spaceships. To give a sense of what it’s like to fly through the city, I’ve put together a small montage of clips featuring some slow relaxing day and night flying to the tune of some synthy sounds. Now we just need some rain! Hope you enjoy! *Disclaimers* -You cannot land wherever you want in this city, you can land on top of many of the buildings, but the only way to access the “ground level“ is by landing at the spaceport and riding the flying bus into the central district. -The actual foot-accessible area is quite small, the equivalent of several city blocks with a few back alleys. -You can not fly as low as you want, there is a no-fly limit at about 400 meters height that keeps you from getting to close to the ground. -There are multiple cities around the planet, though all look quite similar currently and do not contain a landing zone. -While the functionality is currently limited, there are multiple missions that can be started and finished at Area 18. The buildings on which can be landed are planned to contain interiors which will feature FPS style missions as well as deliveries. -As with every Star Citizen patch, what is currently seen is not final, often times existing locations are improved with ongoing development. I believe Area 18 will greatly benefit from the upcoming weather implementations, cloud tech, lighting improvements, and ground level volumetric fog. ___________________________________ Follow me in my exploration of the verse!
