Plot: Anna Kalman is a successful theatre actress in London who has given up hope of finding her ideal man. However, her brother-in-law, Alfred Munson, introduces her to a charming economist named Philip Adams. Anna is immediately taken with him and expresses her interest. At the end of their initial meeting, Anna makes a move on Philip, suggesting they go on a date in the future. Philip politely reveals that he is married but separated and unable to divorce his wife. Surprisingly, Anna is undeterred and asks him out anyway, and he accepts. Their first date goes well, and they begin seeing each other regularly, eventually falling in love. Anna’s sister Margaret warns her about the affair, but Anna dismisses her concerns. As their romance deepens, Philip receives a temporary work transfer to New York for NATO, causing great distress for Anna, as they will be separated for several months. The day before Philip is set to leave, Alfred confronts him about his bachelor status, revealing that he knows the truth from Scotland Yard investigations. Philip admits he’s not keen on marriage but assures Alfred of his genuine love for Anna. He also plans to surprise Anna on her birthday by delaying his departure. Anna informs Alfred and Margaret of her intention to surprise Philip in New York. Reluctantly, Alfred discloses Philip’s plan, and Margaret reveals that Philip is actually unmarried. Anna is furious, feeling her dignity has been insulted. She decides to proceed as if nothing happened but secretly devises a plan for revenge. Anna concocts an elaborate ruse, intending to make it seem as though she was having an affair with an old flame, David, when Philip comes to visit her at midnight on her birthday. However, her plan unravels when David has an accident and can’t make it. She substitutes her elderly caretaker, Carl, as a stand-in for David, but the plan goes awry when Philip mistakenly believes Carl is David. Philip proposes marriage to Anna and leaves in confusion. She is devastated but luckily, Philip returns, and she clears up the misunderstanding. Anna expresses her contentment with their current situation, but Philip insists on getting married. Anna is overjoyed, and the film concludes with the couple embracing.
