#CheerileeNation ~ A tattered swing on the northern wing of our castle did it lay ~ This song is an attempt to look into Luna’s psyche as she slowly progresses further and further toward becoming Nightmare Moon. On one hand, we wanted to show her downright enjoyment of going after revenge, and thinking she’s giving her sister what she deserves. In NMM’s mind, this is just glorious fun, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. However, we also wanted to show the tragedy of this story. How in the end, what lead Luna to choose to go down this evil path was just her feeling lonely and rejected. I envisioned an old swing set sitting abandoned by their original castle in the Everfree Forest, where the two of them used to play when they were foals, before any of the responsibility of being the Princesses of Equestria was thrust upon them.
