Марши Валерия Халилова | Selected works of Valery Khalilov This march completion video is dedicated to the Semyon Chernetsky of modern Russian martial music, Valery Mikhailovich Khalilov (1952-2016). Valery Khalilov was born into a family famous for producing military conductors and began composing his own music at the age of four. He graduated Moscow Military Musicians School aged eleven. From 1970 to 1975 he was on the conducting faculty of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Khalilov’s first posting was being a conductor at the Pushkin Higher School of Radioelectronics of Air Defense under the Air Defense Forces before being a teacher at the Moscow military conductor’s faculty in 1981. Upon coming first place in the competition of military bands of the Leningrad Military District in 1980, he gained the attention of chief conductor of the Moscow Military District Military Band, Major General Nikolai Mikhailov who brought him into that band as deputy conductor in 1984. Valery Mikhailovich was transferred to the governing body of the Military Band Service of the Armed Forces of the USSR in the same year and participated at the 1984 Moscow Revolution Day Parade & 1985 Victory Day Parade as a band deputy director. He then rose up the ranks and became the chief conductor and Senior Director of Music of the Military Band Service of the Armed Forces of Russia, positions he held until his death in 2016.
