“Running Behind“ Score Video (Jazz Fusion 2021)

I know you all know me as a teacher, but I hope you’ll indulge me and listen to some of my original music. This is the first of my pandemic-era recordings to be released. A huge part of jazz music is interacting with the musicians around you. Being unable to get together and play with other musicians this past year, I decided to write some things that would be more densely arranged, with much more in the way of composed ensemble background parts to make up for the fact that there wouldn’t be the usual real-time interactivity amongst the players. This piece combines elements of jazz harmony and improvisation, big band arranging, world music rhythmic ideas, and contemporary classical composition.
