Steve Smith plays a SONOR Jet Set - Part One

On a recent visit to the SONOR Drum Factory in Germany, I spent some time playing various kits in the Sonor Factory Drum Museum. One of the most interesting kits is this 1992 prototype for the “Horst Link Signature JET SET.“ Horst Link was the grandson of Johannes Link who started the company in 1875. Horst took over from his father Otto Link and ran the family owned business until December 6, 1991 when he sold Sonor to Hohner AG. Horst Link stayed associated with Sonor as a consultant and in late 1992 Horst wanted to offer a very exclusive drumset for fans of SONOR Drums. The kit had a Black Maple finish with Gold Hardware, the cost was 15,000 USD, at that time considered the most expensive drumset in the world. Sonor would fly the purchaser to Germany to visit the Sonor Factory and see their kit. Horst guaranteed there would only be 50 sets made, each one would be made for the individual that ordered the kit and their kit would have a badge engraved with their name. As far as I have learned by speaking with the staff at Sonor, in addition to the Jet Set Prototype that I played in the Sonor Museum, only five kits were ordered and made.
