В это время распадалась большая страна с четвёртой по численности армией в Европе — Югославия. Босния была её частью. Отделение от Югославии было кровавым. Боснийцы убивали сербов, с которыми раньше жили в мире по соседству. Резали головы, насиловали, мучили в концлагерях. Сотни тысяч людей бросили тогда свои дома и бежали из Боснии. «Происходило какое-то влияние на сознание мусульман. Что они особенные. Что они должны жить здесь без сербов».
