New island emerges near Japan’s Iwoto after volcanic eruption

A Japanese researcher has visually confirmed that undersea volcanic eruptions took place about 1 kilometers off Iwoto Island in the Pacific, creating a rocky island with a diameter of around 100 meters. Iwoto, previously known as Iwojima, is located about 1,200 km south of Tokyo in the Ogasawara island chain.
