Derinkuyu Underground City in Turkey 😱

Underground City in Turkey Did you know there are at least two completely underground cities in Cappadocia, Turkey? The Underground City of Derinkuyu was used as a place of refuge from danger. It can shelter up to 20,000 people. Could these have been built by the same people who built Gobekli Tepe? Are they connected somehow? The ancient Turkish people at the time needed it to shelter, but from what exactly? Parts of the underground network run as deep as 75 meters (250 feet). The multi-level complex of Derinkuyu, consists of a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers, covering an area of 445 km2 (172 miles2) - it’s truly incredible! You would certainly need a map to find your way through this network of tunnels. When residents retreated underground, they blocked the access tunnels with round stone doors, and sealed themselves in with livestock and supplies until the threat passed. The second underground city is The Underground City of Kaymakli. Both Kaymakli and Derinkuyu are connected by a 9 kilometer underground tunnel.
