beth & benny || take me home [queen’s gambit]

“Beth sees things the same way I do.“ I 100% recommend this show if you haven’t watched it yet. I am actually very sad that it is a limited series and that we wont be getting a season 2 because I would really love to see the development of Beth’s interpersonal relationships as she faces the consequences of her overcoming addiction. Benny really did steal my heart and the juxtaposition between his character and Beth’s, along with their parallels is so interesting to me and I just want more content with them even though the show really did tie everything up. I think in particular the line where Beth asks Benny why he carries a knife around followed by him questioning if she always drinks so much is an interesting parallel because Benny’s answer is “protection“ and when it comes down to it her substance abuse is also a form of protection from her past trauma.
