Peace Celebrations At Salisbury (1918-1919)

Peace Celebrations at Salisbury, Wiltshire. Children’s historical pageant in city streets. Parade in progress. (Lloyds Bank in the background - SL.) Children in costumes; carrying banners. A bunch of boys in school uniforms march; each row holding a long bar which stretches across; and ropes stretch along sides of group, enclosing it. Stone Age kids.; dressed in rags and furs - funny. School again. Different sections w/ children depict history of England - Romans coming; Saxons - (with a very tall Saxon). bishop’s procession of altar boys during which one kid holds up a model of what looks like a dinosaur on a pole. The 1st charter;- a bunch of peasants . Another group of boys in school uniforms march. Merrie Sarum - this includes a dancing bush (!) and kids in funny jester’s hats. Some Elizabethan collars appear. Mayor’s procession with banner - ’John Ivie - Mayor’. On football pitch w/ crowd round; the Cave Children enter; w/ dead animal hanging on stick.
