Collecting a baby flying-fox from a vet: this is Eiffel
Eiffel is an orphan female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox whose mother died on powerlines and fell to the ground with her little one on her.
Mum looks like she’s been gnawed on by rats but somehow Eiffel hasn’t been chewed and is relatively unscathed.
She was quite dehydrated at rescue and once she had some fluid replacement, she developed a swollen wrist and elbow, and once her adrenaline had worn off she was also a lot less feisty and a lot unhappier.
She has a fracture in one fingertip which is partly healed (at least a week’s healing) which I just slightly supported with a stiff dressing so it didn’t re-break, and she had a few punctures (not rat bites but tiny shallow punctures); I don’t know what caused the punctures.
She also had swollen slightly grazed toes on one foot.
By day 2 she really wasn’t a happy girl and I though I’d probably lose her. She saw the vet, started on antibiotics and we gave her supportive care.
