The title piece from Thomas Newman’s score is, fittingly, the climactic music as Andy finally tastes freedom, and stands in the rain, washing off the filth he has had to endure. Movie scene like this don’t come along too often. Directed by Frank Darabont, based on a story by Stephen King. Starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton, Clancy Brown and Gil Bellows. Newman received his first two Oscar nominations that year (for this and for Little Woman), and has been nominated a total of 13 times, but hasn’t won so far. The film missed out on several awards since it was a stellar year featuring Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction, and for score, The Lion King.
