Artificial Intelligence: from origins to the present day Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most dynamically developing areas of modern science and technology. AI has a history of more than 70 years, and during this time it has gone from theoretical concepts to practical solutions that change our daily lives. The foundations of AI were laid in the 1950s by scientists like Alan Turing and John McCarthy. Turing proposed the famous test to determine the intelligence of a machine, and McCarthy introduced the term “artificial intelligence“ itself at a conference at Dartmouth College in 1956. In the 1960s and 70s, AI research focused on building expert systems and solving logic problems. However, the limited computing power of the time led to the so-called “AI winter“ in the 1970s and 1980s.
