Mike and the romantics, a cover band from New Jersey smashing it out live supporting Jimmy Eat World at their first Australian show of 2023. Mike was once bass player for a little known band from New Jersey known as MCR. (My Chemical Romance). After a torrential rise to stardom, Mike along with brother Gerard, number one fanboi Frank Lero and lead guitarist Ray El Toro went their separate ways to pursue side projects and resetting at life. Frank Lero tried unsuccessfully to regain fame and fortune with side projects including CellarBerations, FutureViolets, Patients, and DeathSpells to name a few, before unceremoniously being run over by a bus in Sydney, nearly ending his career right there. Frank however didn’t let this get in his way and in true undead style still chasing that vampire money. With a realistic act building on decades of fan research, Mike and the Romantics kicked off their world tour in 2019, only to leave their Kiwi and Aussie fans isolated and alone, as we were cut off from the rest of the world under Covid Lockdowns. We thought it would never end, and then, once the decay had truly set in, and three resets… last night Mike finally hit the stage to support Jimmy Eat World, and thrill the local crowd with what must be one of the best, most sincere tribute bands I have ever seen!
