Beautiful Love with Close & Open Voicings

Practice your close & open voicings with this great standard “Beautiful Love“ Close voicings are often called “rootless voicings“, or - when played in the left hand - “left hand voicings“. For maj7 and min7 chords we use 9th chords (maj9 and min9) without the root. For dom7 chords we use guide tones 9 and 13, again without the root. You can also use these LH voicings to comp behind yourself while soloing in the RH. Open voicings (or “spread voicings“) are the most complete voicings we use in jazz, not only to harmonize a melody, but even to comp behind a singer or soloist. They consist of root - guide tones (3 & 7) - tensions - melody. Since we use both hands to play these open voicings, we have plenty of space to add extensions or to use alterations and reharmonizations. Notice we only play 2 notes in the LH (1 & 3 or 1 & 7)! * Free pdf of the sheet music: * Free pdf of the sheet music (with a
