Communal Village (1959)

Bromdon, Near Bridgnorth, Shropshire. The communal village is hidden in the Clee Hills. M/S workers till fields, including C/U of John Atkins, a West Indian man, and Tom Paul, standing by a gate. The shots include children gathering hay, girls with plaits, boys with a telescope, named as Kenneth Jones and Oliver Dyroff, Maggie Watkins looking after tiny children in a nursery area in the garden, where they play with wooden toys. M/S of men working making tubular steel gates, one is named as David Mason. C/U as he welds, then as he takes off his goggles and wipes his forehead. Laurence Bosch packs eggs into large trays. Gladys Mason rings a large bell. M/S of food on tables in an open air canteen, people sitting in a benched area. Erika Hildel plays violin, and others are seen doing country dancing.
