Heavy snowstorms in the US, more than 1,800 flights canceled across the country. A brutal winter storm hit the Midwest on January 12, bringing blizzards and freezing temperatures. Nearly 100,000 customers in Northern Illinois were without power due to frigid temperatures and heavy snowfall in the Chicago area. Blizzard warnings were issued in several states, including Idaho, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota. Snowfall could exceed 12 inches in parts of Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.
