Paolo Tomelleri - Chinatown My Chinatown

Swing Expo 2015 @ Teatro Dal Verme After the great success of the previous events, the city of Milan hosted another show dedicated to the swing music. Connecting with the spirit of the 2015 Expo that took place in the Italian city the same year, the event showed how traditional music from all over the world influenced jazz and swing music, as well as jazz and swing music influenced folk dances and songs, in a journey through different countries. The Big Band was directed by clarinettist Paolo Tomelleri and the show hosted a great number of international musicians and dancers. “Chinatown My Chinatown” was written by William Jerome and Jean Schwartz in 1906. Although the song is now considered a jazz standard, it did not catch on when they wrote it in 1906. It became a national hit only after 9 years, in 1915. After the success, the song was recorded by numerous and famous artists (25 jazz recordings between 1928 and 1942), such as Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima. In Milan it was performed
