Monsoon rains in India’s northern, eastern regions trigger landslides, floods

At least 50 people were killed over the past three days, according to Indian officials, after intense monsoon rains poured over parts of eastern and northern India. Floods and landslides were triggered by the rains, overwhelming hundreds of villages, sweeping away houses and leaving residents stranded as rescue crews worked to evacuate survivors. The rains also caused a bridge to collapse in India’s northern state of Himachal Pradesh, killing two people as a result.
