It is set in the fictional world of Middle-earth created by J. R. R. Tolkien, following the character of Gollum eight years before his appearance in The Lord of the Rings. The game was released on May 25, 2023, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch port will follow later in 2023. The game was announced by Daedalic Entertainment in March 2019 for release in 2021. With the Nacon agreement announcement, the game was delayed to 2022. On 24 May 2022, it was announced on the game’s official Twitter page that the developers were currently targeting a release on September 1, 2022, for Steam and the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The Nintendo Switch version was announced to be coming on November 30, 2022. On July 25, 2022, the developers announced a further delay of “a few months“. After missing its planned 2022 release dates, Nacon announced that the game is set for a May 2023 release for Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, with a Switch version later in the same year. Four DLCs, also comprised in a deluxe edition, titled “Precious Edition“, will also release featuring bonus emotes, a lore compendium, an original soundtrack, art, and additional voice acting in Sindarin. A first cinematic teaser trailer was released on August 24, 2020,gameplay trailers were released on July 6, 2021 and July 7, 2022, and a story trailer was released on March 9, 2023.
