The sky is attacking South Africa! Monstrous flooding in Cape Town!

Extreme weather continues to impact Africa. On September 24, heavy rains hit the Western Cape province of South Africa. The country’s weather service issued a level 9 warning, the highest level ever issued in the province. The maximum warning level is 10. More than 150 mm of rain fell in some areas in 24 hours. Heavy rains have led to widespread flooding and landslides in Cape Town and surrounding areas. Rivers overflowed their banks, roads were washed out, and cars were stuck in the water. Houses, buildings and shops were flooded. According to preliminary estimates, more than 1,000 houses were damaged due to flooding. There were power outages in several areas. 11 people were reported dead. Eight people died from electrocution during floods in Driftsands and Klipfontein. Flooding in the municipal area of Theewaterskloof also claimed three lives. According to experts, Africa has recently seen an increase in extreme weather events. These impacts of climate change are detrimental to the economic and social development of countries in the region. They also threaten the health and safety of their population.
