The La Brea Tar Pits: BetterGeology

Support me on Ko-fi: Part 2 of my series on the La Brea Tar Pits, this covers the formation of the pits. The tar originates as crude oil about a thousand feet underground from the Salt Lake Oil Field, and rises along the Sixth Avenue Fault, where it mixes with organic materials and minerals to form asphalt and bitumen. Animals were lured into the tar pits by water and abundant food nearby that was sitting on top of tar pits, which led to them getting stuck and dying. Predators were attracted by the trapped animals, and thus many more predators than large herbivores are found in the tar pits. A very special thanks to Richard Saunders (from Australia) of the Skeptic Zone podcast for helping me film this video, and for his continued support in my production.
