Live 🔴 No lights in Uruguay: massive flooding has destroyed the country’s power grid!

As a result of unprecedented rains, the cities of Uruguay went under water again. Unprecedented rainfall caused damage to homes and traffic chaos, as well as power outages. In total, about 19,000 consumers were cut off. More than 100 mm of rain fell in just a few hours - more than during the entire observation period at that time. City officials say relief crews are working overtime and around the clock to restore normalcy. The heavy rain was accompanied by strong winds that toppled trees and power lines, leaving 40,000 people without power in the region. Traffic and public transport have been stopped, and at the moment it is not possible to talk about the start of traffic. Uruguay’s Interior Ministry said 664 people had been evacuated from their homes. Firefighters responded to 848 incidents in the affected areas, including 87 downed trees and 99 utility poles. Storms and heavy rains follow a period of unusually high temperatures in the country. The country’s meteorological agency had previously warned of an imminent disaster, but their message was ignored and lost in the myriad of daily problems. Today we are talking about colossal losses due to flooding. Even if water is pumped from communications and mains, work is impossible until specialists examine everything and test start-ups of electricity and other vital energy systems. The damage caused will be compensated with the help of the World Bank for Construction and Reconstruction. Also, during the repair, it is planned to pay attention to the possibility of rebuilding some important objects for their safety in the future. During the period of elimination of the consequences of the natural disaster, children will not be involved in school classes, and the educational process will be organized remotely using the Internet. The authorities ask to remain calm and wait for the normalization of the situation.
