Ella Fitzgerald “It Might as Well Be Spring“

Ella Fitzgerald is perhaps best known as a jazz singer, but was also an excellent performer of ballads. “It Might as Well Be Spring“ written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for the 1945 20th Century Fox film, State Fair, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for that year. Here is Ella’s Decca recording from 1955 found on the four-CD retrospective Ella: The Legendary Decca Recordings made between 1938 and 1955. The box set was released in 1995 by Verve Reissues. Ella would later record a live version in 1961 for her Verve album Ella in Hollywood. I do not own the right to the song, audio, or images contained in this video.
