Power to the People

A 5 Kilowatt Microhydel Power Project at Village Rokhan, a far flung village in Upper Dir of Khyberpukhtoonkhwa province of Pakistan. Before 2013, there was no electricity in this village. The people of the village used firewood, kerosene oil, light torches and Gas cylinders for their lighting needs. There was no one to think about the village and its need of electricity. They spent a handsome amount to full fill their lighting requirement. There was not one to think about this small village. There was water source and enough vertical head available to construct a microhydel for the village. in mid 2012, some active persons from the village approached to a non-Governmental Organization and demanded for the MHP. Firs, as the SOP of the organization, a village organization was formed and some amount in form of community saving was showed to the NGO.
