Pewter Casting in Bulk with Silicone Mold

A recent commission for custom pewter pilgrim badges required a technique for bulk casting. The first step was perfecting an original ship design using sand casting and Dremel work for details. Tiny jump rings were added so the badge is attachable to clothing or bags. Then I stamped a brass plaque for the lettering and glued it on to the original. Using Smooth-on Mold Max 60, I made a heat resistant silicone mold that would stand up to repeat use (450 times!). Each badge was cast, trimmed, filed, tumbled for approx 2.5 hours, and then rinsed.
